Kate Powers has an extensive background working with dogs and horses. She has been heavily involved in competition obedience, Rally-O and tracking as well as having obtained titles in each of these disciplines with her Belgian Shepherd, GCH Maggray's Mr. Ultra Irresistible HIC TD CD RN 'Morgan'.
Kate has been a professional bed bug detection K9 handler in the lower mainland region of B.C. for the past 4 years. First with her partner, K9 'Swag' under Orkin Canada, then most recently coming on board as K9 division manager with 1st Pest Control and new K9 partner 'Halo'. Kate and her K9 partners are called upon to search a wide variety of locations such as public transit, medical facilities, care homes, hotels and private homes. This experience allows her to have an in-depth working knowledge of odour behaviour, handler critiquing, and K9 search behaviour. She also routinely attends scent detection and handling seminars in addition to her yearly third party certifications required to remain active in the scent detection field.
Currently qualified for K9 ABC Games judging. |
